Stitch Fix #2 - July 2015

After the overall good experience last month, I couldn't wait to see what my stylist picked for me this month. What did I get? A pair of pants, three shirts, and a cardigan:

Brand: Level 99 Giovanni Straight Leg Jean
Price:$98
Status: Kept

These are skinny jeans. My legs are not skinny at the top (I have giant thighs). I've never tried on a skinny pant that I liked. So I was skeptical when I held these up. But after trying them on, I was amazed. They fit! They didn't look too tight. And they were comfortable. They are a nice grey and my stylist mentioned that they would be a good contrast for the navy blue top I kept from my last fix. I totally agree! I do admit that I gulped when I opened the list with the prices because I normally wouldn't pay almost $100 for a pair of pants, but I had already fallen in love. I'm wearing them in all the pictures.

Brand: Market & Spruce Corinna Striped Dolman Top
Price: $48
Status: Kept

This was a top I kept seeing on Pinterest in various colors. The Dolman style seems to be popular right now and I haven't tried the style myself, so I pinned it with a note saying as much. My stylist saw that I had pinned it and sent it my way. I love the color. I love the feel. And I think it looks pretty good. Definitely a keeper.

Brand: Fun2Fun Julianna Back Cutout Top
Price: $38
Status: Kept but only because I was keeping the other 4 items and it was a better price to keep this one and get the 25% discount on everything. Otherwise this would have gone back.

I wanted to like this top. The pattern and color were great. The fabric felt nice. The back detail was neat. But then I put it on. I felt like I was wearing a tent. The front just ballooned out and was pretty short. So disappointing. I knew I would not be keeping this. Yet after deciding to keep the other four items and doing the math, it was a much better deal to keep this one and get the 25% discount for keeping all five pieces. So it's staying. I think I'll try it with a cardigan or something to see if I can tame the tent. I do like the pattern and color after all.

Brand: Renee C Shelton Split Back Top
Price: 48
Status: Kept

This was another item I had pinned. Although a little more "busy" than I normally would choose, I like the colors and was happy to see it in my box. After trying it on, I thought that it was a nice staple with some great details and I could wear it by itself or with a cardigan. Another keeper.

Brand: Brixon Ivy Pinson Drape Cardigan
Price: $54
Status: Kept
Yet another item I had pinned to my Pinterest board. This was an item I was really hoping my stylist would send me at some point and so I was thrilled to see it in this box. And I was not disappointed. The fit is great and I love the drape and feminine details. I'll definitely be wearing this one a lot.

I know that not everything my stylist will send me in the future will be things that I love, but after this experience, I can't wait for my next fix. I actually rescheduled the next fix so it would come a week earlier, I'm so eager to see what is in the box. And I'm really looking forward to wearing these pieces.

Stitch Fix #1 - June 2015

I'd been hearing about Stitch Fix here and there for a while, so I finally decided to sign up and give it a try. I thought about doing a blog from the beginning but got busy and never got around to taking good pictures of my first fix, so this first fix post won't be as detailed.

Preparing for my first fix
I spent quite a bit of time filling out my profile and thinking about the types of pieces I wanted. I decided for now not to get accessories or jewelry as I want to build my clothing first (I'll add those in a little later). I looked around a lot on Pinterest and pinned things I liked, making notes on each item so my stylist could see why I liked each piece. So getting the email that my first fix had shipped was exciting! Imagine my surprise to actually get the package the very next day. It turns out that it ships from the same area where I live, so it doesn't have very far to go!


Receiving my first fix
The fix is packaged quite nicely. The pieces are folded up and wrapped in tissue paper, and there is an envelope containing a note from your stylist, some styling suggestions for each piece, and the price list.

I eagerly removed the tissue paper to see what I got. I decided not to open the price list until after trying on each item as I can be a bit of a cheapskate and didn't want the price to be the thing that influenced me on whether or not I liked something.

The box contained three shirts, a pair of jeans, and a dress.

Price: $78 (more than I've ever spent on jeans before)
Status: Kept!

I started with the jeans. They are a very soft fabric and when I put them on, they felt so extremely comfortable. Even though they are petite, they did seem almost too long, but when I put on shoes, they worked better. I can't tell you how hard it is to find jeans that fit and look good. My stylist did it on the first try. I love these jeans!

Status: Sent back

Then I put on the green shirt because the color was wonderful and the fabric was so soft. I looked in the mirror. Ugh. No. Not at all. The top had no shape, was quite long, and with the "tail" in the back it was even longer. It did not flatter me at all. I knew this was a miss.

Status: Kept!

Onto the next item, which was actually something I had pinned to my Pinterest board. I really liked the crochet detailing on the sleeves of this top. The drape and feel of the fabric is also quite nice. My only slight disappointment was that the navy color blended into the jeans a little too much, but I thought that I'd just wear different bottoms with the top.

Status: Sent back as fast as possible

Then I tried on the top that I didn't think I would like. And I was right. I hated it. It was sheer, had sleeves that rolled up and buttoned, and although I do like chevrons, I didn't like the jagged edges. I tried to tell myself that I was experimenting and expanding my style, but as much as I tried to find redeeming factors for this top, I just couldn't.

I did take a picture of this one on me in the bathroom mirror.

Brand: Pink Martini Seneca Dress
Price: $74
Status: Kept!

The final piece was a dress. I put it on and knew that I was keeping it. The fabric is quite nice and the color is both pretty as well as fairly neutral so I think I can wear this a lot of different ways, dressed both up and down.

I actually wore the dress to dinner with my husband to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We were in Colorado, so I didn't really pack and accessories but I wore some cool red shoes with it to give it a pop of color (unfortunately I didn't get a picture with the shoes).

So all in all, I was quite pleased with my first Stitch Fix.
