Stitch Fix #7 - November 2015

For this fix, I asked if I could have my old stylist, Jan, back since I felt she did a much better job than the one who sent me the last fix. I did not get Jan, but the stylist for this fix did actually write in her note that the reason for that is because Jan is no longer a stylist. I'm sad about that, but it was so nice of the new stylist (Andrea) to let me know. And it was also very obvious that Andrea had read over my profile and looked at my Pinterest board because her picks for me were so much better than what I got last month.

This time I asked for a few things: shirts to be worn under all the cardigans I've been collecting, something plaid, and some shoes to wear with skinny jeans. I got 2/3 of those so that's not too bad.

I had pinned several items with polka dots on my Pinterest board, and I think I remember seeing this sweater (although I didn't pin it for some reason). So I was happy to get this. It is super soft and comfortable and I like that even though the colors are neutral, it's still a fun sweater. And my stylist suggested trying it with the green jeans I had previously received, so I'll be sure to do that.

I love the color of this top. The shirt has texture (which isn't really apparent in the photo) so it's not just a plain shirt, but it's also just a tad see through in the light (I edited the photo slightly to hide that in one area). My stylist indicated that she sent it as something to wear under cardigans (pointing to the navy blue one I received previously in particular). With the weather here, I probably don't need a long sleeve top to wear under a cardigan but the navy blue cardigan is really lightweight, so added to the top of this might actually be quite perfect.

Brand: Mystree Sylar Asymmetrical Knit Jacket
Price: $78

To be honest, I'm not sure about the asymmetrical trend. I like things to be even and tidy and lined up. So this is a bit outside my comfort zone. Comfort, though. Gosh this cardigan is comfortable. It actually is a bit fitted so I can tell that it will be a nice warm piece. I'm not completely sure if it looks better open or zipped up, but I think I'm going to keep it and see how it goes.

Andrea said she saw this top on my Pinterest board so she decided to send it. I love the polka dots, the flow of the top, and the detail on the back. Oh, and the color?? Love! Plus it is very comfortable.

A few months ago, I noticed that in my style questionnaire on Stitch Fix a few new lines had been added, asking my shoe size and the types of shoes I was interested in. I've been reading other people's reviews and some have gotten shoes, but it seems like whether or not you can get shoes depends on which location your fix is coming from. Someone mentioned that shoes were available out of the Dallas location (which is where my boxes ship from), so I asked for some shoes in this fix.

At first, I wasn't sure what to think of these. I like that they are black because I can definitely use black flats. The inside is quilted just a little so they seem a bit more comfortable on the bottom of the foot. But they are covered in rhinestones (not sure how well that shows up in the picture below, but you can see them in the first picture in this post). These would not be the shoes I would reach for in the store, but then again, that's part of the fun of Stitch Fix--trying something I might not normally try. Since the price isn't too bad on these--and I definitely need something like this to wear with the skinny jeans--I'm going to keep these and see how well I like them.

I thought a lot about the maroon shirt since I didn't love it (and the price is a bit high) even though it does provide a good staple piece. And I wasn't 100% sure about the asymmetrical zipped cardigan. But after doing the math and seeing the 25% discount if I kept all 5 pieces and because I know even if they're not my favorites I'll at least wear those two pieces, I decided to keep all 5 items. So I'm thinking Andrea is also a keeper!

Updated November 21: I went to check out at Stitch Fix this morning and realized that when I did the math on keeping three pieces vs. all five pieces, I forgot about the styling fee (I didn't subtract the styling fee from the total of the three pieces). Because of that, the difference in keeping three vs. five was a lot bigger than I originally thought, so since I was on the fence about the jacket and the maroon top, I decided to send those back.

Stitch Fix #6 - October 2015

For this fix, I asked my stylist to add more color to the box. I also said that I had plenty of pants right now so skip the pants this time. And I asked for a fall purse; I'm pretty picky about my purses, so I had several things that I listed that I was looking for in a purse. It's the first time I've gotten any accessory from Stitch Fix (I had to change my profile to allow it to be sent).

So I was really excited about getting this box. and when I opened it, I was happy to see several colors in the stack (or two stacks, since the purse was wrapped separately).

Then I held up each piece. And my excitement waned. There were a couple of things that I was rather surprised to receive and couldn't believe my stylist included them. Then I read her note and thought it sounded a bit "off." I looked at the note more closely. Jan, my stylist for my first five fixes, had been replaced by Jena. *sigh* I really want Jan back (and I'll ask for her for next time).

So we'll start with the good, then the bad, and then the ugly.

Brand: 41Hawthorn Lizzy Colorblock Striped Sweater
Price: $68

This was the one really great thing in the box. I had seen this sweater, in various color combinations, on Pinterest and had pinned it to my board. The weather doesn't get super cold here, but it is good to have a few lightweight sweaters, and that's exactly what this is. It is soft and light and I love the colors. The price is on the higher end, but I know that I'll wear this one as many times as I can this winter, so I think it's a good investment.

Brand: Mak Jaclynn 3/4 Sleeve Button-Up Cardigan

I don't absolutely love this cardigan, but I do like it and I think it's a good addition to my wardrobe. It does fit well, even buttoned up, and it's a good staple fall color. And the price on it isn't too bad. Plus, I do like that it's 3/4 sleeve so I can wear it even in the milder weather.

Brand: Urban Expressions Elisha Zipper Accent Structured Satchel

There are things I like about this purse. I like the color. I like the feel of it. I like the several pockets that it has. I can definitely see why this is a popular purse and pretty high in demand. But it's just not the purse for me. For one thing, it's too big. I don't carry a whole lot around in my purse. I don't want a teeny tiny purse, but I don't need a "satchel" either. I also prefer to carry my purse on my shoulder and although this could be done, it feels too bulky under my arm. It does have a shoulder strap to add to it, but the side handles are also there and I feel that when wearing the shoulder strap, those side handles just get in the way. I do like the inside (white with black polka dots), but I think ultimately the cons outweigh what I like about it and I'll find the purse overwhelming and annoying if I kept it. It should go off to someone who likes it better.

No. Just no. First, I've told my stylist that I don't want dresses unless I specifically request one for that fix (guess that didn't make it to the new stylist). And this dress is nothing like any of the dresses I've pinned on my Pinterest board. It's too clingy, so it shows off all the wrong parts of me. The faux wrap part just means the bust area flaps open (I'd have to wear something under it to feel even remotely comfortable wearing it). And the color just is all wrong for me (heck, even my camera seemed to not like it since it's overexposed in the pictures). A complete fail.

After the dress, I didn't think it could get worse, but it did. The only thing I like about this top is the color (which I do love). I detest that it is partially see-through (something I've mentioned before) and I absolutely loathe tab sleeves (something I've also mentioned before). I'm not sure it comes across in the picture, but I just couldn't get the sleeves to look or feel right with the tab (one of the reasons I hate them). I don't think Jan would have sent me this top. I miss her. I hope she's still available.

So that was my Stitch Fix this month. I do really love the striped sweater and the cardigan will be a good piece to add to the wardrobe, but I don't feel that it makes up for the two absolute complete misses that were in my box. I'm looking back fondly at some of the items in my previous boxes that I returned and wishing now that I had kept some of them. *sigh*  I'm hoping next month will be better.

Stitch Fix #4 - September 2015

For this Fix, I asked my stylist to try another pair of shorts. I was also opened to the possibility of wearing a color of shorts or pants with my previous fix, so I also asked for a pair of colored jeans. Other than that, I just said that I didn't need a dress this time around. I had added a couple of new things to my Pinterest board, but there wasn't much I was specifically trying to get this time.

My first thought on opening this fix was that there was a lot of denim. I assumed they were all pants/shorts. Instead, much of the denim was made up of a denim jacket. In addition to the jacket, I got a pair of shorts, a pair of colored jeans, and two sleeveless tops.

This is the same brand (different style) of shorts that I got the last time. My stylist mentioned that she picked these because the fit is similar but the fabric is more opaque. I like these shorts. They are comfortable and the black denim is not something I have in my closet yet, so they fill a hole. I usually prefer less of a wash on my denim, but I think it works with these shorts.

These are the same jeans as the grey ones that I received in Fix #2. The dark green color is a good choice--it allows me to try some colored jeans but at the same time isn't too "wild" of a color so it helps me ease into wearing them. I can totally see me wearing these. Although on the high end price wise of what I'm comfortable paying, I do think these will get a good bit of wear.

When I pulled this top out of the box, I thought, oh yes! Definitely a keeper. I really liked it a lot, and when I tried it on, it fit perfectly. I've been going back and forth on sizes (I seem to be right in between two sizes) and this is the smaller of the two sizes. I think that for looser clothing, the smaller size is just about right. Had I checked out the same day as I got my box, I would have kept this top. But then I started thinking more about it. Although I never look at the prices until after I've tried everything on (I want to get an honest reaction and not let price be too much of a factor), I do think that this top is just priced too high. It's made of mostly rayon and although cute, just doesn't seem worth the listed price. Had the price been $34, I would have definitely kept this top.

Status: Returned, as much as I loved it because of the price

I have to admit, when I pulled this top out of the box, my immediate thought was "no way!" I did not like the mesh fabric at all. My stylist wrote I can layer a cami underneath if needed. If needed? I'd never wear a top like that without a shirt under it! But one of the things I like about Stitch Fix is that I get clothes to try on that I might not try otherwise. So I kept an open mind and put on this top (over another shirt). And you know what? I liked it. It went from the "no way" to the "I just might keep this" list pretty quickly. Ultimately, I decided to return it and that decision was again based on price. Had the top been $34, it would be in my closet. At $54, it's going back to Stitch Fix.

I've been seeing denim jackets everywhere on Pinterest and blogs, so it wasn't really a surprise that my stylist sent me one. However, this is where we hit a snag. Apparently the smaller of the two sizes I'm between works great for looser fitting tops. But for something that is more fitted like this denim jacket, it just doesn't work. This jacket was way too tight across the back of my shoulders. (That's why the picture is on a dress form and not on me.) I just felt like I was wearing a straight jacket. I briefly considered asking if this was available in a larger size, but then I really examined the denim jacket and realized that it's a pretty heavyweight jacket. And I realized that even if I had a size that fit right, I would still feel weighted down while wearing it. So I'm going to send this one back and ask my stylist to try another brand/style of denim jacket with a lighter weight fabric.
